Our team of fellowship-trained interventional cardiologists offers minimally-invasive, catheter-based procedures — including diagnostic cardiac catheterization, elective and emergency angioplasty and coronary stenting to prevent, diagnose and treat life threatening heart diseases. Our cardiologists also diagnose and treat peripheral vascular diseases utilizing minimally-invasive techniques. They perform emergency and elective interventional cardiac procedures in state-of-the-art catheterization labs in the hospital setting.

Common Diseases Treated by Interventional Cardiology

  • Coronary artery disease (CAD) - is a hardening of the heart vessels coupled with plaque buildup. It is defined by lipid deposition in the arteries of the heart. There are two types of CAD, obstructive and non-obstructive. With obstructive plaque, people will experience symptoms like chest pain and shortness of breath, while non-obstructive CAD will usually not cause symptoms. A heart attack is more likely with obstructive lesions, but is still possible with non-obstructive plaque under the right conditions.
  • Heart valve disease – comes in two forms. Sometimes the valves become stiff or hardened, which is referred to as stenosis. This means the valve doesn’t open completely, and it forces the heart to work much harder to pump blood. Other times, a valve is “leaky,” known as valvular insufficiency, which means the valve doesn’t close completely. When this happens, the valve may not seal completely and some of the blood flows backward.
  • Peripheral vascular disease – is also known as Peripheral artery disease (PAD), which is a slow and progressive circulation disorder caused by narrowing, blockage, or blood vessel spasms. The disease commonly affects the legs and feet, but the functions of any organs that do not get enough blood flow can be negatively affected.
