Women who stop ovulating or having a menstrual cycle prior to the age of 45 are said to experience early menopause. There are many signs and causes of early menopause to consider.

Changes in Mood and Cycles

Early menopause can be the culprit of mood swings, worsening anxiety or mild depression, especially if these occur suddenly or are out of character for you. Irregular cycles and missed periods are both very common signs that early menopause is occurring.

Aches and Pains

Women experiencing early menopause may experience various forms of physical pain. These can manifest as tenderness in their breasts, along with body aches and headaches.

Early Menopause Causes

The process of early menopause has many possible causes, including:

  • Hypothyroidism
  • Partial or total hysterectomy
  • Mumps and other infections
  • Chemotherapy
