About Me
What made you want to become a health care provider or what is your earliest memory of wanting to be one?
My father is a physician and my mother was a nurse, so I grew up around medicine. Saturday mornings spent at my father’s clinic around 10-12 years old, were likely my earliest inclinations of wanting to be a doctor. I thought being able to help people and fix them was the coolest job around. I also loved that medicine is science applied in practice.
What do you love most about your specialty? / Why did you choose your specialty?
I never had my heart set on a specific specialty. As I rotated through the different specialties in medical school I realized I liked them all and that family medicine would allow me to get exposure to every area of medicine. I also really enjoy the ability to see patients of all ages; from “womb to tomb” as the saying goes.
How do you connect with your patients?
I try to place myself into my patients’ shoes to understand what they are going through when coming in to the office. Often simply listening can be an effective medicine.
What are your interests outside of the office (hobbies, activities)?
My family and I are very active. I enjoy a variety of athletics including hockey, tennis, & golf (especially golf!). I love experiencing the outdoors with hiking, backpacking, canoeing, skiing, and trail-running. I also tend to get fully submerged into various hobbies, with next in line likely being wood-working. I especially enjoy spending time with my wife and 1 year old daughter.
What is your advice for your patients?
Prevention is key. The modern medical system in the US, as it is currently designed, is based around the treatment and not prevention of disease. Instead of focusing on treating problems as they arise, take the time to tackle things that are in your control which can prevent many debilitating diseases.
