Middletown, N.Y. – February 16, 2017 – Crystal Run Healthcare, led by its Cardiology team, hosted a fund raiser to benefit the American Heart Association’s National Wear Red Day. On Friday, February 3rd, providers and staff at Crystal Run Healthcare’s nearly 25 locations personally donated money and wore red to help raise funds and bring attention to the staggering facts around heart disease and stroke, encouraging women to take action to live longer, healthier lives. On Wear Red Day, employees had the opportunity to wear red clothing or purchase red dress pins to show their support. In total, $1,801 was raised by Crystal Run Healthcare and donated to the American Heart Association to support educational programs to increase women’s awareness about their risk for heart disease and stroke, as well as encourage heart health.
Crystal Run Healthcare has had an enduring commitment to heart health and preventative medicine for its patients as well as the communities it serves. Annually, Crystal Run Healthcare has teamed up with the American Heart Association to encourage heart health by participating in Wear Red Day. In addition, Crystal Run Healthcare will take part in the American Heart Association’s 2017 Tri-County Heart Walk on May 7th in Harriman State Park where Cardiologist, Dr. Randy Cohen, and Director of Medical Specialties, Courtney Welyczko, will lead the practice’s Walk Team – “Place your Heart in our Hands”. In addition, complimentary screenings will be offered throughout the event.
According to the American Heart Association, heart disease and stroke cause 1 in 3 deaths among women each year – more than all cancers combined. On National Wear Red Day, the first Friday in February each year, millions of individuals unite to wear red, take action, and commit to improving the health of women. Funds raised by Go Red for Women support research about cardiovascular health, a vital step in the prevention and treatment of heart disease and stroke.
“Each year, I feel privileged to coordinate the practice’s effort for National Wear Red Day – a day that strives to raise awareness about heart disease being the leading cause of death in women. While tremendous strides have been made to educate women on heart health, more work is imperative. We must continue to drive awareness of women’s risk for heart disease and stroke and raise funds for critical research,” said Sandeep Singh, MD, FACC, Cardiologist and National Wear Red Day Coordinator for Crystal Run Healthcare.
