What made you want to become a health care provider or what is your earliest memory of wanting to be one?

I was always very interested in science, so I became a biochemistry major in college to explore the sciences more. Going into medicine felt like a natural next step because I wanted a career where I could make a difference in people’s lives. 
 

What do you love most about your specialty? / Why did you choose your specialty?

I enjoy that any medical issue can be part of this specialty. It keeps each day interesting because I see many different concerns. I also like being the central part of a patient’s care team—the one who talks with specialists and brings all the information together.

How do you connect with your patients?

I know that many people leave a visit and realize they forgot to mention something or ask a question. I encourage patients to make a list of what they want to cover during the visit. If they leave and think of something later, I’m always glad to follow up with a message or answer additional questions.

What are your interests outside of the office (hobbies, activities)?

I enjoy taking my Labrador for daily walks, hiking in many of the region’s parks, swimming in the summer, and skiing in the winter. These activities get me outside and into nature, which helps me relax and stay active.

What is your advice for your patients?

I encourage people to schedule a yearly comprehensive physical to check all body systems and make sure recommended screening tests are up to date.
