Middletown, N.Y. – July 2, 2013 – Crystal Run Healthcare’s Managing Partner and CEO, Dr. Hal Teitelbaum, has been selected to participate in Crain’s NY Health Care Symposium: Make Way for the Mega Docs, on July 17th at the Essex House New York in Manhattan. Dr. Teitelbaum will be a contributing panelist to “Mega Practices: A New Era of Health Care,” a panel of leading health care executives from New York’s top multi-specialty group practices that will discuss the changing landscape of health care in this new era of accountable care organizations (ACO). Teitelbaum will speak to the unique challenges facing a multi-specialty group ACO and outline the emerging role and importance of the physician practice in controlling health care quality and costs as they engage in outcome based payor contracts.
Crystal Run Healthcare was founded by Teitelbaum in 1996 and has steadily grown as a national leader in health care reform. The practice remains at the cutting edge of health care delivery as it transforms to the value-based model of accountable care. In 2012, Crystal Run Healthcare was one of the first twenty-seven health care practices selected by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) to participate in the Medicare Shared Savings Program (MSSP) as an Accountable Care Organization (ACO). The National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) recognized Crystal Run as an Early Adopter seeking ACO Accreditation in January 2012. The latter process culminated in December 2012 when Crystal Run Healthcare became the first medical entity in New York, and among the first four in the nation, to achieve NCQA Level 2 ACO Accreditation.
“I am honored to have the opportunity to contribute to this panel as we discuss the changing landscape of health care in our country. This is an important time in the evolution of health care nationally. We take seriously the awesome and solemn responsibilities we have chosen – to provide the best care for our patients each and every day, and to help lead transformation of the health care system to one which is sustainable, accessible to all, and which provides the highest quality care for all Americans,” said Hal Teitelbaum, MD, JD, MBA, Managing Partner and Chief Executive Officer at Crystal Run Healthcare.
Joining Dr. Teitelbaum on the panel will be Scott Hayworth, MD FACOG, President and CEO, Mount Kisco Medical Group; Walter LeStrange, COO, ProHEALTH Care Associates; and Simeon Schwartz, MD, President and CEO, WESTMED Medical Group.

About Crain's NY Health Care Symposium: The big mega-practices in the New York area are a force to be reckoned with for New York’s hospitals. These multi-specialty practices have large suburban campuses, huge market shares and will control the flow of patients in the new era of accountable care organizations and bundled payments. New York City hospitals are building vertical versions of such practices that they say will offer one-stop patient experiences. Crain’s will explore these two competitive strategies and the impact to New York City’s health care industry. For more information visit the Crain's New York website.
