Welcome to Behavioral Health at Crystal Run. Our behavioral health team is made up of psychiatrists who are board-certified in Adult Psychiatry and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry; psychologists; and Licensed Clinical Social Workers.

Our expert behavioral health services team treats children ages three years old and up, adults, and geriatric patients. We take a multi-disciplinary, integrated approach to mental health and wellness. Working with primary care doctors, specialists, and therapists, our behavioral health doctors address the psychological, physical, and emotional well-being of patients. We’re dedicated to providing patients with the most comprehensive mental health treatment available.

About Our Mental Health Doctors

Working in our state-of-the-art behavioral health center, our licensed clinical psychologists Heather Carpenter-Sarmiento, Psy.D, Maria L. (Marilou) Gonzales, PsyD, and Jordana Nejman-Muhlmeister PsyD conduct psychological evaluations with diagnostic assessments and provide psychotherapy. 

  • Dr. Carpenter-Sarmiento works primarily with adults dealing with various life stressors, diagnoses, and emotional distress. Dr. Carpenter-Sarmiento has extensive clinical psychology training and treats patients with a wide range of problems, including anxiety disorders (general anxiety disorder, panic disorder, social and other phobias, and obsessive-compulsive disorders), depression, sleep disorders, relationship difficulties, and stress-related medical conditions. She has a doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology (Psy.D) and is licensed by the State of New York. Dr. Carpenter-Sarmiento may refer patients to a psychiatrist where appropriate.
  • Dr. Gonzales has extensive training in clinical psychology and sees and treats children, adolescents, and young adults with a wide range of concerns, from primary to complex medical problems; work-life balance; loss and grief, sadness, depression, and mood disorders; anxiety and stress; relationship and family conflicts; and life-stage transitions. She has a doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology (Psy.D) and is licensed by the State of New York. Dr. Gonzales may refer patients to a psychiatric doctor where appropriate.
  • Dr. Nejman-Muhlmeister has specialized training in children and adolescents and has clinical interests in adolescent growth, family systems, special needs families, panic disorders, developmental disabilities, and childhood trauma. In addition to working with adults for reproductive issues, couples therapy, depression, anxiety (general and social), parenting, grief, and loss. She has a doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology (Psy.D) and is licensed by the State of New York.
